Short Talks
This section of the website comprises short stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals. More talks/sermons/homilies/articles will be added in due course.
The section of the website entitled The Christian Faith provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments.
The Sunday Eucharist
“…we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him” (King James Bible, Matthew 2:2)
The Wise Men’s journey to Bethlehem was no holiday excursion. It was an expedition into the unknown, fraught with hardship and peril. They did not know how long they would be away; how far they had to go; indeed, not even where they were going.
The Conversion of Paul
On January 25th we celebrate the conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus. He changed from being someone who, in his own words, “...was violently persecuting the church of God and was trying to destroy it” (NRSV, Galatians 1:13) to someone who spent the rest of his life preaching the Gospel. You can read about his conversion in Acts 9:1-22. The liturgical colour is white for joy.
The grace of God
“For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace towards me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them – though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me” (NRSV, 1 Corinthians 15:9-10).
Some people seem to be gifted with an innate ability in a particular area, and we acknowledge this when we speak of a born teacher or a born artist. There is one thing, however, which no one can ever be and that is a born saint.
