The Christian Faith

This section of the website provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments. It begins with Introduction·to the Christian Faith.  More content will be added in due course.

The section entitled Short Talks comprises stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals.· 

 

6. Meaning of the Crucifixion

Our Saviour Jesus Christ, in willing obedience to God his Father, came from Heaven into this world to do three things:

  • to save us from the evil around us and in our own hearts;
  • to bring us back to God;
  • to make new people of us by making us like himself.

The Crucifixion was a certainty from the start, because, just as evil destroys, so love saves.  And Jesus in his twofold love for his Father and for us did not flinch from seeing his mission through to the end, whatever the cost to himself.

7. The Church here and hereafter

The Church was founded by Jesus himself, in order that through it he might in every generation continue his Ministry of:

  • preaching the Gospel;
  • teaching the Christian Faith;
  • bringing people to God;
  • making them fit to share his life both here and hereafter.

The Church is thus the People and Family of God; and the Body of Our Lord through which he works in the world.

8. Sacraments of the Church

In Palestine during his earthly Ministry Jesus gave people both health of mind and body and also spiritual benefits by saying something to them or by laying his hands on them.
