The Christian Faith
This section of the website provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments. It begins with Introduction·to the Christian Faith. More content will be added in due course.
The section entitled Short Talks comprises stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals.·
Tenth: Vocation
The Catechism explains the Tenth Commandment in these words: “Not to covet nor desire other men’s goods; but to learn and labour truly to get mine own living, and to do my duty in that state of life, unto which it shall please God to call me”. (1)
Vocation
You will notice that it says, “in that state of life, unto which it shall please God to call me”. Many people, who ought to know better, think it says, “unto which it has pleased God to call me”, as if we ought not to change our job for the better. But that, as you can see, is not so.
Faithfulness to God
This section in Holy Faith forms part of Introduction to the Christian Faith which was originally written as a three-year Catechism course for children; the style and language reflect this fact.
‘Faithfulness to God’ builds on previous teaching on the Creed, prayer and the Ten Commandments and acts as a link into ‘Worship and Sacraments’.
Christian Rule of Life
As you know, the Ten Commandments were given by God to the Jewish people after their escape for Egypt, and in our sessions on the Ten Commandments we have seen the meaning they have for Christian people today. But it is also very necessary for us to have a personal rule of life which will help us keep the Commandments, loving God and loving our neighbour, and, in the words of the Baptism service, remaining faithful to Christ to the end of our lives. So let us think now about our Rule of Life.
